How to Create a Room-Wise Material Estimate
Build a material estimate room by room so customers can see where the money goes and you can adjust scope quickly.
Why room-wise
Customers think in rooms, not materials. A room-wise estimate lets them drop or upgrade items in one room and see the effect on the total straight away.
Steps
List every room. For each room list the items of work. Measure each item in its natural unit. Apply a rate that includes material, and show labour separately if your customers expect it.
Finish with a summary table showing the total per room.
Keep a buffer visible
Plywood and laminate are bought in standard sheet sizes, so allow for wastage in your rates rather than hiding it in quantities. Say so in your terms.
